    Numerical Simulation and Optimization on Structural Parameters of Spiral Drill Pipe with Groove

    • The structural parameters of grooves in the spiral drill pipe have been numerically simulated and optimized by means of orthogonal experimental design and engineering fluid dynamics (EFD) in order to acquire the fastest penetration rate and the best borehole quality while drilling in shallow slim holes in the coal mine with notched spiral drill pipe, thus the optimal structure of the discharge groove is obtained.Theoretical analysis has indicated that the number N,the depth d,the width L,the groove structure form, the screw pitch P and the bottom radius R of grooves,have an obvious influence on the discharge performance of the φ63 mm spiral drill pipe with grooves.In conclusion,the optimal theoretical structural parameter configuration of φ63 mm spiral drill pipe can be obtained with flat-bottomed grooves while N=3,P=160 mm,L=30 mm,d=3.5 mm and R=4 mm.
